The gray wolf was reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park in 1995, after 70 years of being absent. Their absence was due to almost total elimination in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The wolf was also reintroduced to the mountains of Idaho.
Now, Congress has decided to remove the gray wolf's endangered species designation although only 1500 roam the lower 48 states. Also, the states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho want to "manage" their wolves. Take this as a code word for near total elimination! Montana's current population of 566 would be reduced to only 300. Wyoming would protect Yellowstone wolves, but those that wander too far from the park would be eligible to be "shot on sight".
Alaska still allows the cruel and inhumane "sport" of aerial hunting.
