Chris DeRose address to President Barack Obama in reference to Commercial Whaling and secret deals. Im Chris DeRose, President and Founder of Last Chance for Animals. President Obama I urge you in the strongest terms possible to reconsider your administrations plan to allow the resumption of commercial whaling for the first time in over 20 years. This is a complete betrayal to the Whales. How dare you even consider this plan. Should you allow this heinous proposal to go through you will be a traitor to the Whales and to all good moral people around the world who know that murdering Whales is never acceptable under any circumstance or for any political reason. President Obama, you need to step up and show the moral leadership that you promised on the campaign trail. Remember when as a candidate you stated on April 16th 2008 As President I will ensure that the U.S. provides leadership in enforcing wildlife protection agreements including strengthening the international ban on commercial Whaling. Allowing Japan to continue commercial whaling is unacceptable. We took you as a man of your word. Or are you just another politician who will say anything to get elected. Mr President you promised that you would have the most transparent and open administration in history. Why then are you going along with a plan that has been made in secret. This deal would allow Japan, Norway and Iceland to continue their slaughter of whales despite the existing IWC moratorium on commercial Whaling. In fact, the deal would allow those countries to continue their illegal whale slaughter for commercial gain under the approval of the IWC, including in the southern Antarctic Ocean whale sanctuary designated by the IWC. Mr President you have the power to stop the massacre. You do not want to go down in history as the President who oversaw and condoned the Killing of the last great whales on the planet. President Obama, there is a time for pragmatism and there is a time to stand your ground and not give another inch. You should be working to close the loop hole of Scientific whaling which the Japanese so arrogantly exploit. You won the Nobel peace prize. Show the world you are deserving of such a great honor. There is nothing noble or honorable in making secret deals to murder whales. Only someone who only wanted to be a one term President would even think of doing something so morally repugnant. Stand, fight and do what is right for the Whales and all of humanity, your children and all the children in the future. Respectfully, I ask you to instruct the U.S. International Whaling Commission representative Monica Medina to block any agreement or administrative effort to gut or limit the current international moratorium on commercial whaling. Mr President, Demand an end to all whaling, now and forever.
