Earth Day 2012: United We Stand, Divided We Fall

Posted by: Brett Ensor in General Environment

More than one billion people will call for the protection of our planet today as they gather around the world to celebrate Earth Day. Their mission: to raise support for a more sustainable future as climate change continues to wreak havoc across the globe.

Frustrated by the lack of "green" policy at the international level, campaigners are now calling for a new deal to be signed at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit this June.

Grant Barbeito
Green Ambassadors event hosted by Environmental Charter High School Students
(Lawndale) 28, April, 2012- Environmental Charter High School Green Ambassadors students are hosting a water event at Alondra Park from 1:00pm -3:00pm on April 28, 2012 to raise awareness of the water crisis happening around the world. We will also teach how to conserve our water more efficiently so not only does it help our planet but also help people save money by using less tap water.
This event will provide information for the people around our community on how to conserve water and ways on how you could conserve water. We will teach people the importance of saving water and how it will affect us in the future. We would educate the community on different ways to cut down on our water waste. For example we would be selling rain barrel, when it rains the rain barrel to collect the rain and people can use it to water plants. There will be games and prizes for kids and food for all as well.
"I feel that this event will help the community understand the water crisis what we are having. Also it will show the community new ways to save water and help them cut down on their water waste."
– Jackie Molina. (ECHS student).
"Got Green event that will show the community on how to be greener by saving water and being eco-friendly. At the event they can buy Rain Barrels that will collect rain so they can use the water to water their plant or wallets made out of recycle magazine."

As the 42nd Anniversary of Earth Day approaches, people are becoming frustrated with the failure of governments to take any steps toward protecting and preserving the environment. The Earth Day 2012 campaign is designed to provide people with the opportunity to unite their voices in a call for a sustainable future and direct them toward quantifiable outcomes, using vehicles such as petitions, the Billion Acts of Green® campaign, and events.
Earth Day 2012 will act as a launch pad for growing the environmental movement and will put forth a bold declaration demanding immediate action to secure Renewable Energy for All and a sustainable future for our planet. The movement will be comprised of individuals of every age from all corners of the Earth, and will call upon local, national, and international leaders to put an end to fossil fuel subsidies, embrace renewable energy technology, improve energy efficiency, and make energy universally accessible.
