Prior to taking Mr. Visco's high school science class, Keith Hogan did not believe humans had had any hand in climate change. "I thought the media had just picked that up and blown it out of proportion," he said.

We say that the future is in the hands of our youth; that is even more the case in the current age of technology and human advancement. Some of the most pressing problems of our world and our community can be identified and addressed with the eyes of the young; eyes that are clear and bright and optimistic.

Global Youth Service DayPosted by: Administrator in General Environment |
Global Youth Service Day, originally launched and known as National Youth Service Day in the United States, is a coordinated annual event which gathers young people around the world in conducting community service, service learning, and youth voice activities that benefit their communities, their countries, and the world. Activities are organized in more than 100 countries each April to help mark the celebrations, and engage millions, making it the largest annual celebration of young volunteers.
In 2009, the event will be April 24-26. In 2010, it will be April 23-25. It is coordinated by Youth Service America and the Global Youth Action Network, together with a coalition of organizations, and with sponsorship from Disney and the Inter-American Development Bank. More than 2,000 youth organizations around the world participate each year. A variety of organizations with national reach across the United States engage in National Youth Service Day activities, including the United States Conference of Mayors, Woodmen of the World, and Habitat for Humanity. A variety of organizations have been accredited with administering the day, including Global Youth Action Network, Youth Service America, and Points of Light Foundation.

The Green FuturePosted by: Administrator in General Environment Tagged in: General Environment , education

Hi everybody, I'm Amanda and I'm a student at Environmental Charter High School. My role here at the school is to spread the "Green Change" throughout my school by Selling Kanteens and Chico bags to everybody in my school. My goal is to for all the soccer, baseball, basketball, and softball players to have a Kanteen instead of having plastic water bottles.
My other job here in the school is to tell the students that I was one of the students that went to Costa Rica, one of the greenest places on Earth, that we went to spread our Green Change that we have made in our school and our community and also learned how we could live without all of these "new" things that humans have made. For example, instead of having land fills we can just compost food or anything that we take from the earth can be composted again and re-used. In Costa Rica, I learned very much about the environment and also about myself. For example, I don't have to hit the mall wanting a new shirt from Abercrombie & Fitch.

We Are the Green Ambassadors. We are an organization that works with teenagers or young adults and teach them the environmental problems and not just that we also teach them what to do about it.
We as an organization help the students live differently. I am a student who was changed by joining the Green Ambassador program. As a Green Ambassador I now Use Stainless Steel Canteens to prevent me from using plastic bottles. I was on the reusable bags website where I read that Americans will buy an estimated 25 billion single-serving, plastic water bottles this year. Eight out of 10 (22 billion) will end up in a landfill, which they got from the Container Recycling Institute. That is just crazy to me. I am a Green Ambassador and will figure out how posts are put on here I do have another blog website where I am more fluent you can say at http://echsgreenambassadors.blogspot.com
