Hi Jane and Jane Lovers,

What a long journey from a girl in the jungle by herself with no role models and little direction much less anything else, all the way to being an environmental hero! And one of the most famous of our time. We admire her for what she learned about chimpanzees and how much more developed our distant "cousins" are than we thought. We admire the consistent and kind and possibly too patient way she provides her message about conservation. And in recent years, how she travels most of the year to get out the urgent message that we must live sustainably, take action now, not to save the chimps, which should be done, but to save our selves.

Today marks the 100th birthday of Jacques-Yves Cousteau. The Cousteau Society will commemorate the centennial of his birth with a year-long celebration in Paris, as well as various events planned around the world.
