Source Associated Press-June 12 2008, Four Homebuilders Fined for Runoff MDC Holdings Inc, Denver, CO; Centex Corp, Dallas, Texas, KB Home of Los Angeles, California and Pulte Homes Inc. of Broomfield Hills, Michigan have agreed to pay $4.3 million in fines for failing to control runoff at construction sites in 34 states and the District of Columbia, US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Justice Department announced Wednesday. These companies have agreed to take steps above what is required to control 1.2 BILLION pounds of sediment containing contaminants such as dirt, stucco, paint keeping them out of the nation's waterways. Runoff clogs fish gills, smothers their eggs and blocks sunlight from plants.
