David Owen, a writer for the New Yorker, talks about his book The Conundrum: How Scientific Innovation, Increased Efficiency, and Good Intentions Can Make Our Energy and Climate Problems Worse. He argues that when we make things (like energy) cheaper we end up using more of them. Consequently, efficiency can't solve our energy woes, we need to reduce our consumption of limited resources.
