Sustainable Arizona is a resource, education and action organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Arizona and the Southwest. We work with businesses, individuals, governments and other organizations to build resilient economies, strong communities and healthy natural environments. Our nonprofit organization is made up of volunteers and professionals committed to making sustainable development possible. We accomplish this by encouraging businesses that add true value to our communities while preserving the environment.
Our founders include experienced professionals who have been working towards sustainable development in business for many years. Our members include business owners and employees opening new markets with innovative solutions to the needs of our society. Others include environmental or social advocates who belong to many organizations and wish to gain the advantage of group synergies. Still others include individuals yearning to live lives that reflect their values. Together, we create and promote business and community practices to achieve a sustainable future – where people can thrive for generations in harmony with each other and the natural world. In concert with businesses and other organizations, Sustainable Arizona hosts workshops and conferences to educate and inspire citizens, government officials, and business leaders to choose sustainable practices and conservation technologies.
Clean Energy Expos & Solar Tours: Sustainable Arizona works with utilities and local providers to create tours, forums and expos on energy efficiency and clean energy systems.
Preserving Water Resources: Each year, Sustainable Arizona stages a number of forums on water resources in the desert Southwest featuring leaders in conservation and technologies. These events also include expos on local foods.
Sustainable Economic Development: Sustainable Arizona provides a leading role in sustainable economic development initiatives in Northern Arizona and supports efforts underway throughout the state. We supply expert testimony to the Arizona Corporation Commission on issues of sustainable development, energy and water use.
Sustainability in Education: The president of Sustainable Arizona is the chair of the Sustainability in Education Initiative for Northern Arizona. The team works with school systems, the university and colleges plus local nonprofits to improve the quality of education through the integration of natural systems learning.
We accomplish this mission through:
• the networking, development and promotion of sustainable businesses and practices in Arizona
• the acquisition and delivery of information on new resources, systems, technologies and methods for achieving sustainability
• the creation of an online sustainable resources directory and calendar of events
• the education of the public on the necessity for taking effective action towards sustainable living practices
• the staging of forums, expositions and events to increase public, government and business awareness of sustainability resources
• the collaboration with business, civic and governmental organizations that are working towards sustainability goals
• the alliance with leaders and experts in the region to design and implement models of sustainable development in Arizona
• the coordination of teams of specialists to provide appropriate services to businesses, governments, organizations and individuals working to achieve sustainability
