As humans we have more of an impact on this planet than many of us realize. We have evolved over time and have changed a great deal. In the recent decade our demands on the resources that earth has to offer have become overwhelming. Our population has grown exponentially and with it so have our needs. The industrial revolution has lead to greenhouse gas buildup as well as increased habitat fragmentation, deforestation, and water use. The U.S footprint is 9.4 global hectares as of 2005. Earth can only sustain life at 1.4 global hectares per capita, therefore we are in severe breach of this limit. Our lifestyles of extravagance and heavy consumerism are negatively impacting the planet. We must reconsider the way we live in an effort to help save the planet and the species that we share it with.
